Senior Director of research and Development Exagen is a patient-focused and discovery-driven life sciences company dedicated to transforming the care continuum for patients suffering from debilitating and chronic autoimmune diseases. Our goal is to enable rheumatologists to improve care for patients through the differential diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of complex autoimmune and autoimmune-related diseases, including lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. By leveraging our proprietary Cell-Bound Complement Activation Products, or CB-CAPs, technology, we help get to the real cause of a patient's symptoms and guide their journey to improved health. About the Opportunity The--Senior Director of Research and Development--is responsible for advancing research & development activities and translating Exagen's portfolio of innovative testing products into clinical products. The Sr. Director of R&D will report directly to the CSO, oversee the R&D team's activities, and work closely with the company teams on key initiatives. Responsibilities

• Leads research, product development, and transfer to laboratory operations activities.
• Researches products and technologies for integration into Exagen's laboratories.
• Drives and manages product development for commercial launches.
• Upholds the excellent standards and high functioning capabilities of the existing lab and R&D organization.
• Provides leadership, mentoring, and development of internal scientific team and ensures team has appropriate skills, capabilities, and resources to meet current and future business needs.
• Works collaboratively with peers on the leadership team to drive value creation for the company and advance key initiatives.
• Represents the company in various scenarios including: potential and current external collaborators, scientific advisory boards, and key scientific meetings.
• Ensures compliance of product development with regulatory requirements.
• Develops other operating mechanisms and processes to ensure effective communication and operations within R&D and other functional areas.
• Prepares and makes presentations and contributes to manuscripts.
• Develops new assay and platform applications pipeline to expand the menu on existing platforms and open new base technology applications. Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Biological Sciences, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field
  • 10 + years industry experience, preferably in Autoimmune, developing advanced diagnostics
  • Laboratory technical experience: Flow Cytometry, ELISA, Genomics, NGS, Molecular Diagnostics, Gene Expression profiling
  • Strong knowledge of Bioinformatics.
  • Strong knowledge of CAP and CLIA.
  • Experience managing and mentoring personnel
  • 10 + years leadership experience as a Sr. Director, supervising managers in R&D leading full life-cycle product development for advanced diagnostics
  • Robust publication record
  • Working knowledge of and experience collaborating with executive teams on business, budget planning and strategic product management
  • Exceptional and proven scientific thought leader that has successfully led teams that have developed core technology that has consequently been commercially launched in life science and diagnostic markets Preferred Qualifications
